Places to visit near Shikhar Nature Resort, Uttarkashi

Vishwanath Temple: 

Vishwanath temple is known as the "Kashi of north", which is ancient and renowned temple in the heart of Himalayan terrain. This temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is situated at approx. 300 mts away from the local market of Uttarkashi. It was renovated by Maharani Khaneti, wife of Sudarshan Shah in 1857. The main attraction of this temple is the shivling, which is around 60 cm high & 90 cm in circumference.


Nehru Institute Of Mountaineering: 

Located 3 kms from the town is Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, one of the leading National Institute responsible for imparting and inculcating the spirit of adventure among the youth of the country. It is known for conducting technical mountaineering and other adventure courses throughout the year.

Himalayan Museum: 

Located within Nehru Institute of Mountaineering Campus is Himalaya Museum, the only museum of its kind in the whole of Garhwal. A wide display of Mountaineering equipment's, history of various expeditions, photos of climbers and peaks are beautifully displayed here. Close to the Himalaya museum is the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering souvenir shop from where one can buy interesting items.
 
Gangotri: 

The temple of Gangotri is 100 km from Uttarkashi and was established in the 18th century by General Amar Singh Thapa, on the banks of the Bhagirathi. It is a Hindu pilgrim town on the banks of the river Bhagirathi.


Harsil:

Situated at a height of 7,860 ft. (2,620 metres.) from sea level, Harsil lies 73 km. from Uttarkashi. It is a village and a cantonment area, on the banks of Bhagirathi River, on the way to Hindu pilgrimage, Gangotri. It is a place where you can trek around the area and enjoy a Himalayan experience.


Gangnani:

This place is very famous for its hot water spring. Also known as Rishikund tirth, it is the place where devotees generally prefer to bathe in a hot water thermal spring before moving on towards Gangotri.



Local Market:

You can explore the local market and have the leisure time for shopping. In this market, the spices and pulses are very famous and mostly people buy them.
